Anvil Pounding the Pavement cover
Let’s talk about perseverance of some of the metal bands. So many of them struggle from day to day, but they still go forward, creating music they love. Anvil may be one of the prime examples here. They have always believed in themselves even when no one else seemed to believe in them. Now let’s talk about consistency of some of the metal bands. So many of them change their style when trends change, selling their souls to make money, but not Anvil. These crazy Canadians have never really surprised their fans so, when you’re buying a new Anvil album, you’re basically buying a new set of songs, because you know exactly what you can expect from these guys style and quality-wise. “Pounding the Pavement” is no different. You still have the rock ’n’ roll and swing influences in songs like “Rock That Shit” or “Warming Up” (both making you tap your feet), you still can hear echoes of good old Sabbath in slower tunes like “Smash Your Face” or “World of Tomorrow”, you still have a good amount of traditional metal riffs, with rather simple lyrics sung over them, and the catchy hook lines are one of the strongest points of the album, again. Plus, “Bitch in the Box” may be the first ever metal song about a GPS device, but it works great as an opener. Not much can be added. If you like Anvil, just buy “Pounding the Pavement” and enjoy; if you’re one of those who bash the band for whatever reason you have, the new album won’t change your mind anyway. This writer rates it high, because it has good songs, it’s old-school, it’s 100% Anvil.
