Therion Beloved Antichrist cover

First of all, as Christofer has said that in many interviews and statements, you have to approach "Beloved Antichrist" as a rock opera soundtrack, not as a metal album. Spanning 3 CDs, with over 3 hours of music, this first proper Therion work since 2010 "Sitra Ahra" (I'm not counting covers, compilations or videos) is Christofer's and the band's most ambitious effort so far. They have developed their own brand of symphonic/operatic metal, but "Beloved Antichrist" takes it all to another level. We've only got dramatic opera vocals here this time around, no metal or rock style singing, but with dozens of roles performed by 15 singers of both sexes plus all the choirs and tons of various melodies and themes mixing heavy guitars with classical instruments, you may feel a little bit overwhelmed when you spin the discs for the first time. You could pick a few numbers that would work pretty well as standalone songs, but this cohesive opus should definitely be listened to in whole as it was intended. The only problem is that if you want to fully experience this soundtrack, you need to sit down and focus, you can't just play it in a car or do your daily chores with music in the background. So, if you like actual opera you'll surely enjoy "Beloved Antichrist", but I can't imagine a regular metal fan to get through the 3 CDs in one sitting. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the actual theatrical performances will happen sooner rather than later, as a well-directed show in combination with the music Therion wrote for "Beloved Antichrist" will be a not-to-miss event for sure.
